TIPS & TRICKS to make readers (and agents) swoon

Work with a book coach who loves what you love.

Sharing your words can be daunting. Especially if they include things like spicy scenes, dark themes, paranormal love interests, reverse harems, or alpha-holes you’d never date in real life. No matter what you’re into, rest assured, your words are safe with me – I love all things romance!

I’m Jen. I’m an Author Accelerator Certified Fiction Book Coach. I might be new on the book coaching scene, but I have over 15 years experience in project management and coaching people to do their best work. I’m also a romance writer, like you. I have two books published, and more on the way.

When you work with me, you get an accountability buddy, project manager, developmental editor, and your own personal cheerleader, all rolled into one.

Jen showed me how important it is to focus on the backbone of my book even before the writing process begins! With the blueprint tools she provided, I was able to gain a better grasp of my characters, my theme, and my plot, which will help me create a book that really resonates with my readers. Her encouraging tips, suggestions, and overall guidance have given me the confidence I need to begin the tedious process all writers face when they start translating their ideas onto the pages.

After over a year of querying with no success, I was lucky enough to have the chance to work with Jen. She helped me make my query letter and synopsis so much stronger, and helped me see that my manuscript could use some tightening up before I started sending more queries. Jen has been wonderful to work with, her feedback was thorough and incredibly helpful, and she was a delight to chat with over zoom, too! I’m grateful for her help, and I’m feeling much more confident in my querying journey going forward.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Alaudae is pronounced: Uh-LOUD-eye

The real answer to why I picked it is that Larks is short for Larkin (my last name) and Alaudae is Latin for Larks.

But I like this one better… A lark shares its song with the whole world, even though other larks are the only ones that fully appreciate and understand it. As writers, we do the same thing with our words. They’re not for everyone, but if we don’t let the world see them, we’ll never find the readers they’re meant for.

  • As long as I’m rooting for the couple to get together in the end, I’m all in!

My favorite books tend to be slow-burn, with a heavy dose of angst and a satisfying grovel. But sometimes I just want a light, sweet rom-com. Or a cute, closed-door holiday romance. Chances are, if you like it, I’ll like it too.

I don’t have any triggers, per se, but I won’t touch anything with explicit non-con between the main characters. Almost anything else is fair game…when in doubt, feel free to shoot a note to jen@alaudaecreative.com.

  • Yes. I coach writers of any genre if there’s a heavy romance subplot.

I also coach fantasy, thriller, and mystery — even without the romance.

  • I have two holiday romance novellas out under the pen name Lynn Larkin.

I made a conscious choice to self-publish instead of going the traditional route, but I work with writers aiming for either path.

If you have questions about the type of publishing that’s right for you, I’m always happy to chat.
